I kick-started my GMAT prep by taking a diagnostic test to see where I stand without any preparation.
To get an appropriate appraisal of the situation, I went for the GMAT ProwerPrep software which gives us the closest indication.
How much did I score? 640
Quant: 47
Verbal: 31
Total: 640
I just went through the questions which I got wrong to do an analysis of the xam.
The Quant topics which I need to concentrate are:
ratios, Cordinate Geometry(more), Simple Interest(more), Sets, Profit and Loss
In Verbal more than 85% of the questions which I got wrong are Sentence Correction. One found revelation I got was I am pretty good at Critical Reasoning.
Result: I need to improve my score by more than 100 points to reach my target score: 750
A lot of students get questions wrong in Sentence Correction is because they directly jump on solving the questions. My questions are
ReplyDelete1. Have you studied the 8 errors that are checked in sentence correction?
2. Is the idiom list at the back of your hand?
3. Are you able to distinguish between which/that, as/like, whether/if?
4. Are you able to detect the modifiers clearly or they still hassle you?
If any of the above answers in no, then it is time to dig into the basics. Solving questions from OG or other material is just testing you on your basics. So if basics are not right, how can expect to get your answers correct? Can you?
Its actually good that most of the questions in verbal that you got wrong were in SC because SC is the only area in verbal which can be learnt and improved 100%. Its like quant, know the rules and formula and you can nail it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog.
@Dagny I did not even start my preparation...I wanted to take a diagnostic to see where I stand and how much I have to prepare...
ReplyDelete@Hari...Thats the only reason I was happy though I got a bit less score...that SC is easy to pickup...
